Cement Chromium Reducer (Chromium Removal Agent)

Chromium is an unavoidable trace element in cement clinker and the cement production process, existing mainly in two valence states: +3 and +6. Among them, water-soluble hexavalent chromium (Cr⁶⁺) is the most toxic due to its strong oxidizing property and ability to penetrate human tissue. It can cause severe harm to human body functions, such as skin pain, ulceration, and incurable cement dermatitis or eczema. Furthermore, it leads to serious consequences including soil contamination that renders farmland uncultivable and groundwater unfit for drinking.
Currently, the content of soluble hexavalent chromium in cement clinker or cement is relatively high, typically ranging from 5 to 30 ppm. In response to the water-soluble hexavalent chromium issue in the cement industry, the government has issued specific regulations requiring the content of water-soluble hexavalent chromium in cement to be controlled below 10 ppm (mg/kg). Therefore, the development of high-performance chromium removers dedicated to cement has become a highly important research topic.
Relying on strong R&D capabilities, our company has successfully developed a new-generation high-efficiency cement chromium remover through homogeneous reactions using the world’s advanced nanomanufacturing technology, catalytic reduction technology, and various polymer materials. The main components of the chromium remover include dispersants, penetrants, catalysts, chromium complexing agents, and nanomaterials, and it contains no harmful elements such as chlorine (Cl) and fluorine (F). Its function is to help cement enterprises meet the chromium content limits specified in domestic and foreign regulations, especially the requirements of the national mandatory standard GB 31893-2015.
The chromium remover produced by our company can not only reduce the water-soluble Cr(VI) content in cement to below 2 ppm, but also improve various physical properties of cement. This is of great significance for enhancing the quality and safety of cement products, protecting the environment, and promoting the sustainable development of the cement industry.
I. Product Performance Features
The advantages of the chromium remover are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
Excellent chromium removal efficiency: the hexavalent chromium content in cement can be reduced to below 0.01 ppm;
Good long-term storage stability: cement treated with chromium removal can be stored stably for more than six months;
Strong high-temperature stability: after chromium removal reaction, the cement will not fail even when exposed to oxidizing environments such as heat sources and moisture;
Flexible formulation: can be produced as powder or liquid according to customer requirements, with easy transportation, metering and low dosage;
No negative impact on cement performance: non-staining and non-retarding;
Environmentally friendly and safe: free of chloride ions, non-toxic, odorless, and classified as a green cement additive.
II. Recommended Dosage
The dosage of the chromium remover is very low. The optimal dosage shall be determined through tests based on the initial chromium ion concentration of the cement. Generally, 10–100 grams of chromium remover is added per ton of cement to reduce chromium by 1 ppm, which can meet the requirements of the national standard GB 31893-2015. This product has no adverse effect on cement properties.
III. Packaging and Storage
Powder products are packaged in film-coated plastic woven bags or supplied in bulk.
Liquid products are packaged in iron drums (200 kg per drum) or stored and transported directly by tank trucks. Store in a cool place. When sealed in original packaging, the shelf life is 24 months at 0℃–50℃. Products beyond the shelf life shall be re-sampled and tested before application.
